While working with one of my daughters, Monica, to gain more insight into our ancestry, I came across this quote on the 23&Me ancestry website that explains my maternal lineage. It is one of the most profound statements that I’ve heard and one that resonates deeply within me.
Once we truly understand the deep meaning of the statement, we’ll stop the fight against one another based on race, religion, national origin, and any other artificial barriers. In my understanding, the furthest we can get away from each other is to be a “cousin”. Let’s put our faith into practice and learn to love each other.
….. After all, s/he ain’t ___________(fill in the blank) s/he’s my cousin!
Here is the quote:
If every person living today could trace his or her maternal line back over thousands of generations, all of our lines would meet at a single woman who lived in eastern Africa between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. Though she was one of perhaps thousands of women alive at the time, only the diverse branches of her haplogroup have survived to today. The story of your maternal line begins with her.

In class tonight with 5 very talented individuals, I got a clear understanding of this scripture. Matthew 6:33 says: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these shall be added unto you.” The Law of Attraction, one of the primary laws of the Universe, says the same thing. It says that when you maintain a feeling of joy, passion, freedom, knowledge, appreciation, etc., all the good things that you desire are drawn to you.
I offer a challenge to you, just as I offer the challenge to the students in my class. Spend a week in the feelings of joy, passion, freedom, knowledge, appreciation, etc., regardless of the conditions around you, and see the good and desirable things that flow into your life. Some “miraculous” things have happened to students who took the challenge.
To me, this the simplest and most spiritual way for anyone and everyone to rise above their current conditions. Like all gifts from God, it is free and will set you free. Don’t take my word for it, but do heed the words spoken by Jesus in Matthew 6:33. After all, you have nothing to lose except for the struggle you’ve been in for far too long.

In my role as a personal and career coach, I often ask people what they would like to do with their lives, if there we no obstacles. The response is often, “I’d like to ….., but …” or “I’m going to …., when…”. My response is to get your “buts” out of the way and start doing whatever your passion is “rat” now! (Not that mousey kind of rat, but rat now! 🙂
If your passion is to help people, don’t wait until you get your human service degree, look around and find some humans that you can serve and start “rat” now. If you want to be a motivational speaker, don’t wait until you’ve completed coursework, find some people who need motivation and start “rat” now. If you want to work with youth, find youth who need or what you have to offer, and start “rat” now.
That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get more education or training, it means start now and improve your resume and competence as you go along. Grow where you’re planted means to look around and see who needs or wants what you have to offer and offer it to them. You might find these people in your place of worship, in your book club, in your family, in the house or apartment next door, in your circle of friends, sitting next to you on a bus, standing in line at the grocery store, or any place you find yourself.
You have been given a gift that will only grow when you plant the seed. And please, don’t wait until you find a way to get paid before you get started. Few people are willing to pay somebody for something that isn’t fully developed. I have a philosophy that has served me well as I’ve pursued my goals and passions. That philosophy is, “Do the work and the money will come.” By doing that, you accomplish many things. One, you get to do what you love to do. Two, you get practice and have a chance to refine your skills. Three, you begin to gain confidence as you build credibility. An also, your life begins to have more meaning.
There is a chance that your tree has not bloomed because you haven’t planted the seed. So, I suggest that, if you want the fruit (joy, happiness, fulfillment, peace, etc.) from your tree, it might be a good idea to plant your seed where you are “rat” now and watch it bloom into the love of your life. It sure has worked for me!
What does that mean, lying on your “I”? The “I” that you speak of is the inner you, your Spirit. Your Spirit, like all energy, is resilient, perfection, harmonious, and all the good things in life. The Spirit is pure Love. It doesn’t get angry, it doesn’t get sad, it is never poor, it doesn’t get tired, it isn’t fat….. and on and on. Those are just some of the lies that we tell ourselves. You might feel angry, sad, poor, tired, fat, or a myriad of others ways. But those are just feelings and they are only designed to let you know that you are not thinking in harmony with your true self, your Spirit, your “I”.
When you are having those “feelings”, it is a good time to get quiet, look inside, and ask the question, “What is it that I want?”, and when the answer comes, focus, really focus, on what you want and watch how you world changes. Your “I” is very powerful and will deliver to you what you focus on most of the time. Stop lying on your “I” and start living from your higher self. Ask for what you want and be open to receiving it.
